For us the Prince Leopold is a labour of love, as well as a commercial venture. We have all known the Leo for many years as our local, in this quiet Wiltshire village. When it fell on hard times in recent years, we were as saddened as the rest of the community. In 2009 we decided to do something about it, and we finally were able to make the purchase at the end of May 2010.
Quite simply, it has been our intention to turn the Leo into one of the best of its kind.
We have earned a reputation for the best food in the region and have developed our food and accommodation offering in the envelope of a pub that has been the heart of Upton Lovell in Wiltshire for over 120 years. We hope we have reflected that unique heritage, and our riverside setting, in the fabric of the Prince Leopold - the only pub so named in the country (see The Leo’s history).
Over the century and a half of its existence, the Leo has been a general store, post office and coal merchant alongside the pub. It has now come full circle and is most definitely focused on being an inn!
